Six haiku on life

My father long dead
visits me regularly
in every mirror.

We buy each day on
credit, forgetting that the
bill always comes due.

I begin each day
with hope as I ignore the
inevitable.

Life is so damned short.
No need to worry, though.
It is also wide.

I run slowly now
The toll of thousands of miles.
So what. I’ll get there.

Don’t long for heaven.
The eternal comes to us
in each well-lived day.

  1. Thanks for the compliment. I offer this haiku in reply:

    Dawn solemn with cold
East light lifts the ice fog veil
    To kiss winter’s bride
