Originally from the Southern Plains, I have lived west of the 100th Meridian for nearly five decades. I like the beauty and rich culture of the West. I am, however, saddened by the traffic, ugly commercial architecture, ubiquitous franchise businesses, and soulless housing tracts, and I try to avoid the venomous animals of the region, particularly real estate developers and other self-styled entrepreneurs.
Although I was trained as an engineer and worked for years in semi-technical fields, it is the human rather than the technological that has been the key theme in my life. I believe the most interesting and critical challenges facing our society involve people and values much more than numbers and things. I have long answered the call to service, volunteering in a score of non-profit organizations, including twenty-five years working with hospice patients and their families in three cities.
My interests include beekeeping, writing, Spanish, running, and goosing sacred cows. My idea of a good evening is sharing food, wine, and conversation with friends and acquaintances.
